Snow, Cute boys, and Chickens

This fence happens to be the beginning of my new rose garden, a valentine's gift from my hubby! The deer always eat my roses to the ground and they die (no fences or dogs), so Nate decided to fence a spot behind the herb garden for me to plant roses:)
We got three or four inches of snow(big deal around here:) and it broke several of our plum trees :( They were kind of sad anyway, needing pruning and all.

In the veggie garden...

Raccoons (maybe our chicken killers)

Daffodils

PeriwinkleHe kept gleefully throwing himself down in the snow:) (this is day two of the snow-it had partially melted, but there was still just enough to play in)

Joshua's hen--he is very proud of the eggs she lays:)

"We are NOT going in the snow--now, will you please get out of the way so we can dash back inside?"
Cute couple

Our boss rooster "Gimpy", a bantam cochin. He came to us free last summer along with a couple of hens and four chicks. He looks like sometime his leg was broken and it healed wrong, so he limps quite badly. Fortunately for him our big roo is a big "chicken" and doesn't challenge him.
Snow boy:)
Sweet smile

We wandered farther and farther up the hill looking for more animal tracks (found a few coons and some deer) and Papa came looking for us :)

It's Snowing!!

The boys are super excited. They insist the rain now coming down to melt the snow we got over the last couple hours is simply more snow. It's switching back and forth between a light drizzle and a light snow. Joshua is outside with a garbage bag trying to slide down the driveway. The mixture of slush and gravel that is his trail is not looking very promising. I have to give him points for enthusiasm though :D

This Morning I Woke Up To...

Snow!!

It started snowing yesterday afternoon, but as usual around here it snowed for a couple hours then started to melt. By evening it was cold enough the snow stopped melting but I really didn't expect to see so much more this morning.
Of course, the kids are hoping for enough snow to sled in. :-)

Snow Fun

We didn't get to make our rice balls yesterday as both boys have the stomach 'flu'. We lounged around together and made the best of our day. Papa came home early from work which was a nice surprise for all of us. We watched a movie together before the boys went to bed. They slept for almost three hours before the vomiting began again. So much for wishing for a 24 hour bug. They are lounging on the couch now, drinking juice. Mama is extremely short on sleep since she only got one hour of sleep before being woken by crying boys. Thankfully we all got a couple hours earlier this morning. All the same I think I will wake Nate pretty soon so I can have a little nap :-)

Here is our snowman building from the day before yesterday.

The snow was so powdery at first we didn't think we were going to have a snowman of any size.

Grandma donated a scarf and hat to the cause...

The powdery snow packed in such a way as to make inserting a nose and eyes next to impossible. We shortened the nose considerably and still had trouble making it stick. :)

Teamwork!

Baby Jubilee is getting cold.
